This course is designed to gain insights into the second language acquisition
/learning processes through an examination of research findings. Moreover, students
will develop an ability to analyze learner language and devise teaching strategies
accordingly. Students will recognize and accept diversity of learning styles and other
learner characteristics, and to become more aware of the complexity of the language
acquisition process and of language learners. Moreover, the course will train students to
become more aware of the differences and similarities between first and second language
processes.

Style and Composition

   The ultimate aim of the course is to enhance and reinforce students’ communicative
writing ability and oral proficiency. They will be gradually introduced to the
fundamentals of academic writing so that they themselves will produce segments of
guided writing and eventually they will be trained to write a research paper according to
the MLA citation format.

English and American Poetry
   This course is intended to give students a balance of classic and contemporary,

English and American works dealing with universal themes. It aspires to present the basic
elements of poetry in a progression in which each new topic is based on what has
preceded it. The emphasis is put on how students as readers can use these elements of
poetry, to interpret and to respond to it correctly, why the poet uses these elements and
what values they have for both the students and the poet. Some critical theories will be
given for the purpose of giving the students something to use in order to understand
