students to the interconnectedness between two major fields: American and British
literature، on the one hand، and teaching English (TEFL)، on the other. The course
combines lectures and workshops that aim at exposing students to approaches to
reading and analyzing literature while learning how to transform literature into rich and
stimulating lesson plans and teaching units. The course surveys various literary theories
and English teaching methodology، while providing students with frames for relevant
discussion and practice.
Objectives:
1- To introduce students to the best and most thought-provoking English literary

texts along different periods.
2- To expose students to approaches، theories، and methods for reading literature.
3- To enable students to think critically and deploy high order thinking skills while

reading American and British literature.
4- To provide students with the tools that enable them to utilize literature as rich and

stimulating teaching material in the classroom.
5- To expose students to various relevant approaches، theories and methodologies in

teaching English.
6- To expose students to various relevant approaches، theories، and methodology to

teaching literature.
